Foxglove is a private practice offering individual psychotherapy and art therapy to folks 18+ in Oregon through telehealth
Hi, I’m Melissa
I’m a Professional Counselor Associate and a Provisional Art Therapist in the State of Oregon. I have over five years of experience working in the mental health field in various roles. I use she/her pronouns and identify as a white, queer, cis, femme, neurodivergent, and mostly able-bodied person.
My journey to becoming a therapist started at a young age as I navigated challenges and ruptures in my own family system and social relationships. Self-concept, perfectionism and feelings of being “not enough” all became part of core wounds that needed tending to. When I was younger, I discovered the power of creative self-expression. I found my voice. I discovered hidden and buried parts of myself, processed grief, experimented, failed, challenged myself and found my aliveness. There was joy and relief when I was able to create something not perfect but true.
It’s an honor to be able to translate my personal experiences, along with my education and training as a therapist, into offering space and support for others. Outside of my work as a clinician, I find joy in being in nature, connecting with others, moving my body, reading fiction and making art both at home and in community spaces.
I am committed to acknowledging, questioning, and creatively dismantling historical systemic power structures that perpetuate oppression. I do this in part by honoring your autonomy, your intersectional identity, (including your gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, neurodivergence, and body size) and your cultural and/or spiritual practices. I believe in promoting choice and personal preference, encouraging authentic self-expression and validating your lived experience.
Why “Foxglove?”
Foxglove is one of the most resilient wildflowers in the Pacific Northwest
It takes root in disturbed ground, pushes through rocky slopes, and blooms in the charred aftermath of forest fires. It does not require ideal conditions. It simply finds a way.
It is also both medicine and poison. In careful hands, compounds from the foxglove plant have been used for centuries to regulate the heart. In excess, they are toxic. This duality feels like an honest reflection of what it means to be human —to carry within you the very things that have the power to harm and to heal. My practice takes its name from that complexity. You don't have to resolve your contradictions; You just have to be willing to show up.
Core beliefs that guide my practice
You are not "broken"
As a clinician, I am not here to help you “fix” what is “broken,” but to support you in gently turning toward what has been shaped by experience and asking whether it still serves you. Your capacity and innate wisdom to move towards healing already exists within you. I am simply here to support you in remembering and harnessing this truth.
Creativity is Innate
Being alive is an inherently creative experience & creative expression is for everyone.
Therapy is Collaborative
Therapy is a relationship. It can be a place to practice being known, to experience something different, and to begin rewriting old stories in real time. This process becomes so much more possible when the therapeutic relationship is in alignment and when you feel empowered.
Process over Product
There is wisdom in slowing down. The body holds important information that can only be accessed when we feel safe enough to pause and listen. Some of the most important moments in therapy are the ones that ask us to simply stay with what is present, rather than rush toward what comes next.
Context Matters
We do not exist in isolation. We are shaped by the families we were born into, the cultures we move through, the systems of power we navigate, and the socio-cultural messages we have absorbed about who we are and what we deserve. Understanding the world you came from is inseparable from understanding yourself.
